Share My Playlists

Nothing used to seal a friendship like a mixtape.

Share My Playlists

Hours were spent mining parent's albums, trawling your old-school cassettes and recording tracks off the radio to an inch of the DJ speaking, all to create the ultimate soundtrack for your crush, best friend or sibling. Then technology pretty much killed off mixtapes, as full of fickleness, fell in love with downloading and iPods instead.

But the age of the mixtape may not be over as music streaming site Spotify have just launched ShareMyPlaylists.com, which as the title suggests, lets you create your own online mixtape to share with friends. Or even complete strangers.

It's not only for highlighting your own musical brilliance as it's a online portal to a whole world of lovingly crafted mixes. Some of them not so great (bulk posting the best of Human League and Soft Cell doesn't equate to the best 80s Electro Dance) but hit the right playlist and it's like it was created just for you.

Can U Dig It? gives a flash back to the heady time in Brit-Pop when Blur and Oasis were throwing bottles at each other, while the Springtime and Beers DJ has obviously been inspired by the recent spate of good weather, and set the tracks to match this.

Users can also hone their creative skills further as the site lets you upload your own 'album cover' for the playlist, although you'll have to make do without the free stickers from Smash Hits! to decorate it this time round.

As the site has just launched there's a library of just over 500 mixes at the moment, but a few pub challenges between friends should kick start the numbers pretty soon. What are the best road trip songs of all time? Or the 10 greatest punch-the-air rock tracks of all time? You're the DJ now.
