Editor's Letter - The Potentialists
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. But since the recession, that image isn’t so much jolly jumpers and ( fake snow ) chocolate-box scenes. The sense of fun is still in the air, but there’s a growing trend showing that we’re re-evaluating what really matters.
Research from American Express and trend forecasters The Future Laboratory have found that 80% of us are looking again at our lives and investing in what they term 'me plc.’
Taking up a new hobby, going to an evening class, volunteering for charity, trying something new – basically doing things that in the past we’ve put off until ‘ one day’ or ‘ we’re too busy’ or ‘ when the time is right.’
The time is now.
So compelling is this trend for self-improvement – and, as a result, emotional, personal fulfilment - that American Express have partnered with the fantastic School of Life to practically help people realise their potential.
Here at Open we're all for following the dream, unearthing new talent, trying something new, looking again at something that could easily be dismissed as 'not my thing.'
With all of us shiny, new and brimming with potential this Christmas will hopefully be more about fun, experiences and feeling and less about tables groaning under the weight of prawn dippers.
And more thoughtful presents? Well, we'd still like something from Santa!
Love
Loma xx
