Editor's Letter - Merry Christmas
Christmas is almost upon us. It has even snowed here in London town. So as we deck the halls and turn our thoughts to family, food and festivities it’s also a time to reflect on the year.
At worst, we’ve been stockpiling alcohol wash in the vain hope of resisting Swine Flu ( didn’t work for me) debating whether the war in Afghanistan can be justified and wondering if Nick Griffin should have appeared on Question Time.
At best, we’ve enjoyed some actual sun this summer, been kinder and more charitable, seen an explosion in social networking, online and mobile communication and here at Open discovered an increasing amount of new talent and eclectic, boundary breaking, genre-snubbing arts and culture.
And the celebrity train shows no sign of slowing, along with reality TV and the seemingly unstoppable whirlwind that is X Factor. We expect 2010 to see Simon Cowell’s power continue - maybe he’ll have his own church complete with gospel choir and sequin- clad worshippers praying for the strength to give a million percent.
Open will continue to give our more modest 100 percent next year, in our continued quest to report on and reflect the very best in the bright, exciting world of arts and culture.
Thank you for your support and loyalty in 2009. We’ll be back on 14th January.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Lots of Love
Loma xxxx
