Totes the bag for you!!!

July 27th, 2010

Being crowned a fashion icon of our generation, featuring frequently in the best dressed lists of the majority of the Uk fashion rags and websites, means that a papp shot or sighting of Fearne Cotton wearing or using a particular item will instantly catapult it to  ’must have’ status.

When the Radio 1 presenter was snapped carrying the simplistically stylish Young and Lost Club Records tote bag the fashion writers were inundated with requests from the style hungry to find out where they too could purchase the gem.

So guys if you haven’t already located the destination to purchase one for yourselves , look no further..

Leo Bancroft Salon

July 27th, 2010

You remember that highly addictive programme on channel 4 a few years back called ‘The Salon’. An ingenious concept where we could nosy in on members of the public and celebrities conversing about everything from their love lives to what they are doing on the weekend, and also the suprisingly private information that we are willing to share with hairdressers (and in this case the thousands watching). But it was the eclectic mix of staff members who were to become stars- from the flamboyant hair-flicking Ricardo who went on to do various tv adverts, Adee - the soft hearted tattooed wide boy, Paul-the cocky but sexy boss to all round charming, down the earth nice guy Leo Bancroft.

When I got the invite to come and experience his flagship salon, which is located just five minutes from where I live in Weybridge I jumped at the chance. A few of my friends have treated themselves to a trip to Leo’s salon, and have come away with high praise for the service, and more than a bit of a crush.

Situated in the quaint Oatlands village amongst one-off boutiques, antique shops and local stores you’ll find the tardis that is Leo Bancrofts Salon. Stepping in from the maroon painted fascade you will find yourself in the welcoming reception. First thing you notice is the  glaring blue Chelsea shirt on the wall, penned with a message from client John Terry who hails Leo the best hairdresser in the world. There is further evidence of the celebrity clientele with pictures of locals Eamann Holmes and Ruth Langford behind the counter.

After a quick parous of the magazines and a refreshment I was taken upstairs to have my hair washed. I usually find this part of the process quite uncomfortable, the sink edges digging into my head, ending up with a crooked neck from the awkward angle and unforgiving porcelain. On this occasion it was nothing short of bliss. This was not your average chair not only could I put my feet up, lazy boy style, the chair was of the massage variety. If this wasn’t enough in terms of relaxation the young lady did the best head massage/hair wash I’ve ever experienced. When she asked if pressure and temperature was alright all I could muster was a faint grunt in my zombified state of euphoria.

Stirred from my almost uncinscious state I was lead past a similarly relaxed person passed out having their eyebrows done, to settle in front of a mirror in yet another room where I was to have my She Emura Art of Hair treatment. I ventured in not really knowing what this would involve, but left knowing I definitely wanted it again !

I only have one or two hair cuts a year so  despite the fact I don’t dye it or style it too religiously it still has a certain amount of damage and dryness but after this treatment it felt close to silk…. a revelation!!

The man himself was not present in the salon during my appointment as he was away filming an exciting new programme for Channel 4, which is due to air in the Autumn. Initially I was a tad disappointed to find out I wouldn’t have Leo working his wonders on my tired tresses, not just because he’s won various awards for his talents but because I wanted to have a good natter about the likes of the golden maned Abbie Clancy and the Terrys! I needn’t have felt hard done by as my stylist was the lovelist guy, who was able to offer advice, but willing to listen to what I wanted from my haircut. I wanted to look just stepped out of a salon , a la Cat Deeley, big glossy main, so we went for the oh so sexy rollers  to acheive the power hair aesthetic .

For me going to the hairdressers was a rare event I would dread, almost like going to the dentist , but with less spitting. Going to this salon taught me that it can not only be pleasureable but be a pampering experience in itself, I was actually sad when the process was complete. Big Thumbs up!!

Sometimes going to more exclusive salons can be a stuffy experience, trying to hard to please or being almost too polished in the way they run things. This salon has found the perfect balance, delivering a service and cut of a high standard whilst feeling relaxed and unpretenscious.

Dead Heroes Clothing has dropped!!

July 20th, 2010

I am hoarder and collector by nature, my current object of obsession being the reliable T-shirt. Despite limited funds and my ever-decreasing storage capabilities, I just can’t get enough. My collection consists of a plethora of moth eaten vintage band tees discovered on markets stalls or via extensive rooting through rails and piles in vintage shops, brand new merch bought from gigs, and overpriced designer examples blazoned with witty text motifs or illustrative prints. Whether it’s teamed with your trusty pair of jeans, used to add a rock/punk edge, or to relax the overall aesthetic when combined with a fancy girly skirt, they are undeniably versatile, and an area of shopping where my will power and wallet takes a battering.

When news broke via Twitter, which is the norm these days, that Lostprophets stylish guitarist Mike Lewis and his friends Pete Staunch, a traveling entrepreneur and biker, and Sean McKee a technical whizz-kid were joining forced to unleash a set of designs influenced by their mutual interest of Comic Art, Punk/Metal, Pop Art Culture and Street Wear, I was immediately anticipating a future T-shirt purchase.

Finally the first collection has dropped and it’s certainly been worth the wait…Inevitably the ever commited Lostprophet fans has been logging on to the site and filling up their virtual shopping carts, as have those similarly interested in the aforementioned design influences… as well as those who have just been mightily impressed with selection of designs on offer. Rock band of the moment, High Wycombes Young Guns, who are currently celebrating the success of their debut masterpiece, have been snapped sporting the attire at various gigs too and  apparently we are soon to have even more ambassadors showcasing DeadHeroes style.

In the future they promise to offer some exciting collaborations with brands and individuals they admire, and with their good taste proven with their first offerings this is bound to lead to even more pleasing designs to sell alongside their own collection.

I’m going to treat myself to the ‘God Killed the Queen’, a design where the the guys punk influence is particularly apparent. I hope it will look pretty sweet teamed with D.M’s and cut-off denim shorts…..and so the T-shirt obsession continues…..

Ugg at Wireless Festival

Tigi Rocks!!

July 14th, 2010

At Wireless festival they had all sorts of stalls and tepees scattered around both backstage areas and the areas that us normal folk are allowed to hang. Situated adjacent to the catwalk area put on by UGG was a Tigi tent , where stylists were teasing the locks of the models and those punters wanting to look festival chic.

I had a chat to one of the representative about the products. As you may have cottoned on to I am a tad lazy when it comes to beauty/grooming products, in fact I don’t do anything to protect or style my hair in terms on products. I also have to admit to using a 2 in 1 supermarket brand to wash my thick long hair, which is only treated to a cut once or twice a year! Shocked by my regime he hot footed it to the pr to ensure I went home with some TIGI goodies .

Thank goodness he did, using these has made me realize how dry and brittle my hair was before. After just one wash and condition with the RE-ENERGIZE Urban Antidotes Bed Head products my hair felt soft and silky, goodness I’m starting to sound like one of those cheesy adverts, do not worry I’m not about to pop in one of those made up science words!!

To finish off my hair revitalize I have been using the rather phallic shaped After Party , a creamy soothing cream which has made my slightly fluffy hair sleek and healthy looking.

Probably the most useful products for me though are the Born to Rock Detangler and the Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo (which I’ve annoying managed to leak all over my floor after one use!!). I am at a festival pretty much every weekend for the rest of the Summer with my new TV show “Whatever is Takes”, which means sleeping in a sweaty van/tent with no substantial washing facilities for up to 5 days in a row. This, as you can imagine leads to a less that desirable head of hair, the dry shampoo however keeps it going a lot longer and actually gives the hair an attractive intentionally messy texture!

I have a festival bag, you know the perfect sized shoulder bag that can fit in a camera, some make up, money, pack-a-mac etc , unfortunately my hair always end up tangled up in the strap and by the end of the weekend I am left with a giant dreadlock. I have nearly had to face the reality of chopping my hair off, something which is far from ideal with ears like mine and a face that doesn’t take kindly to a bob or elfin crop. Whilst the detangler has proved to help this situation greatly I still do not enjoy the activity of unravel myself from my bag, so at Nass this weekend I sported my mums Bumbag, it is cool… really!!
