Made In Hell

October 6th, 2009

To show our loyalty to our favourite band we’ve all been tempted by the overpriced merchandise pinned alluringly at eye level on boards outside the entrance to the main arena, or worse, feeling euphoric after a stellar show fallen prey to the chants of ‘t- shirts for tenner’ by pirates selling cheap knock offs outside that venue, which will inevitably fade, shrink, or crack after one wash.

Dare to align Made in Hells offerings into those shoddy realms at your peril….

For the cynical out there, who foolishly presume this to be another cliche example of a musician trying to cash in, stealing pennies from adoring impressionable fans, take note!

Having studied, and worked, as a Graphic Designer, the Creater (or master) of the range, Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins (who also designs LP album, website, merchandise artwork), spawned Made in Hell upon realization that it would be a travesty to let a multitude of designs, failing to fit into the context of the band, fester in his hard disk without view……. not a money making company or business, but a experiment and alternative creative outlet.

Whilst the dedicated Lostprophets fans and previously satisfied MIH purchasers, who have been on tenterhooks for the last few months awaiting the latest designs, are likely to hot on the heels of last weeks Twitter update, which delivered news of its arrival, there will also be those who are purely fans of great artwork and seeking a new piece for their collection logging on to the website to grab one of the T shirts, Polo’s, Hoodies or Plectrums.

When a long awaited piece of clothing hits the shelves, or virtual rails, it quickly loses its polish when it becomes clear that one wear will transform you into a style clone, with half the fashionable population also opting for the same fleeting ‘must have’ piece of the moment. Aside from one off vintage finds, extortionate designer pieces are often your only way to achieve that special feeling with adornment. As an art collector himself, with particularly interest in work of the urban persuasion, such as Banksy and Micallef, he is aware of the pleasure and reward that can be gained from possessing something that is unique or limited - In MIH instance it comes with a rare, affordable price tag. He also doesn’t succumb to what’s ‘in’ or ‘on trend’ or listen to what’s dictated by fashion columns or the latest celebrity style icons, these wears are merely emblazoned with images that are a manifestation of what is consuming his dark mind at the time.

So, to reiterate their limited nature, alongside being custom made, each piece is numbered and will come with a sticker and badge, and the screens completely destroyed once the last buying transactions goes through. So whether you opt for the timeless embroidered black Polo, the logoed Zipper Hood, or one of the ghoulish graphic tees you’d better hurry …..

Keep an eye out for the next installment and collaborations….
