One of the most intriguing films of 2008 enters the UK cinemas with a bang in the coming weeks. Maverick director Darren Aronofsky has perfectly cast Mickey Rourke as a washed up pro wrestler, who combines stacking shelfs in supermarket overalls with trying to recapture his former glory in underground amateur fights. With the promise of one last shot at the big time, Rourke's Randy "The Ram" Robinson attempts to pick up the pieces of his life - befriending an aging stripper (Marisa Tomei) and reaching out to his estranged daughter. Catching the summer festivals by surprise, The Wrestler has brought together an unlikely combination of actors, director and plot that should be one of the highlights of the cold winter months.
