The BAFTAs
Last night, Open was on the red carpet outside the Royal Opera House for the BAFTAs.
There was a chaotic, electric atmosphere, and the press pen was crammed with crews from E Entertainment ( Steve Jones was in black tie to interview the stars, with Alesha Dixon inside ) the BBC, Sky and others all cheek by jowl.
We were literally ‘locked down’ at 4.15pm : everyone has their tiny slot and once you’re on it, for security reasons, you can’t leave.
And the story of the night both inside and outside was Slumdog Millionaire, which scooped seven gongs including Best Film and Best Director.
The film’s star Dev Patel ignored protocol and raced up and down the red carpet, enjoying his new-found global fame. At one point he grabbed Sharon Stone – who looked amazing - and gave her a big hug. But it was all done in good humour, and she seemed to love it.
The rest of the film’s cast, along with director Danny Boyle, seemed to genuinely get along and had real camaraderie.
But the biggest cheer from the crowd was for Brangelina. The pair are ‘A’ List royalty, and although they didn’t stop to speak to any of the press they gave mega-wattage charisma. The couple are clearly besotted: they kept exchanging intimate looks, she put her arm around him and cupped his face. It was sweet!
